Denon Launches Affordable AVR-S270BT AV Receiver for Home Theater Enthusiasts

Denon, a prominent name in audio equipment, has introduced the AVR-S270BT, an affordable 5.1-channel AV receiver aimed at first-time home theater buyers. Priced at $399, the device is available for $299 at Costco in the United States, making it a competitive option for those looking to upgrade from soundbars to a more immersive audio experience.

The AVR-S270BT delivers up to 70W per channel into 8 ohms, and can push up to 140W at 6 ohms for enhanced bass output. It features three 4K HDMI inputs and two additional 1080p inputs, along with 4K HDMI passthrough supporting HDR10, Dolby Vision, and HLG. This makes the receiver suitable for a variety of devices, including Blu-ray players and streaming boxes.

Key Features and User-Friendly Setup

One of the standout attributes of the AVR-S270BT is its user-friendly setup process. Denon has included a guided installation feature designed to simplify the experience for beginners. Users can easily connect the receiver to their television using HDMI with Audio Return Channel (ARC) support, and Bluetooth streaming is also available for connecting devices such as tablets and smartphones.

Despite its robust features, the AVR-S270BT does not support Dolby Atmos, which could be a drawback for some audio enthusiasts. Nevertheless, it offers essential surround sound formats including Dolby Digital, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD Master Audio. The receiver also supports Dolby Pro Logic II and DTS Neo 6 for up-mixing stereo audio sources, making it a versatile component for various listening environments.

For added convenience, users can store their preferred volume settings and sound modes using quick select buttons located on the receiver and the accompanying remote control.

Availability and Market Position

The Denon AVR-S270BT is positioned as an entry-level option for those seeking quality audio without the complexity of high-end systems. It has been well-received by audio experts, who frequently recommend Denon products for their sound quality and performance.

The receiver is available for purchase from Denon’s official website for $399 (approximately £220 or AU$460 excluding tax) and at Costco for $299. In Canada, it will be sold through Best Buy at a price of $499. As of now, there is no information regarding broader international availability, but updates are expected in the near future.

This new release marks a significant entry into the home theater market for Denon, catering to consumers looking for effective and affordable audio solutions without the need for advanced features like Dolby Atmos.
