Kia has introduced sporty GT variants of its EV3, EV4, and EV5 electric models at the 2026 Brussels Motor Show. These new additions aim to enhance the driving experience while maintaining a focus on performance and design. The EV3 GT and EV4 GT offer modest upgrades compared to their standard counterparts, while the EV5 GT matches the performance specifications of the existing all-wheel drive (AWD) model available in Australia.
While the differences in visual design between the GT variants and their standard versions are subtle, the performance enhancements are noteworthy. According to Alex Papapetropolous, Kia Europe’s director of product, the GT models prioritize more than just increased power. He stated in an interview with Autocar: “GT models are about more than just extra power. We have hardware to deliver everyday emotion – and we want to deliver that in a sophisticated way.”
Performance Features of the New GT Models
All three GT models feature virtual gear shifts that simulate the tactile sensations associated with traditional internal combustion engine vehicles. Additionally, they incorporate active sound design, which amplifies the faux drivetrain noises based on speed and load conditions. The suspension settings have been retuned for enhanced performance, and a specific GT driving mode offers a more immersive driving experience.
The interior design is enhanced with vibrant lime green accents on the steering wheel, seats, stitching, armrests, ambient lighting, seat belts, and door trims. This eye-catching color is also used on the brake calipers.
Powering the EV3 GT is a 215 kW dual-motor AWD system, consisting of a 145 kW front motor and a 70 kW rear motor. The vehicle is equipped with an 81.4 kWh battery, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds. The EV3 GT rides on 245/40 Pirelli P-Zero tyres fitted to 20-inch alloy wheels.
In comparison, the existing EV3 is sold in Australia with a 150 kW front-wheel drivetrain, capable of reaching the same 0-100 km/h benchmark in 7.5 seconds.
Specifications and Availability of EV4 and EV5 GT
The EV4 GT sedan and hatchback utilize the same 215 kW dual-motor AWD setup as the EV3 GT, paired with the same 81.4 kWh battery and 245/40 tyres on 20-inch wheels. Despite being longer than the EV3, the EV4 is slightly quicker, achieving 0-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. The EV4 is currently available in Europe, with a launch expected in Australia by 2026.
The larger EV5 GT features a more powerful 225 kW AWD system, composed of a 155 kW front motor and a 70 kW rear motor. Kia claims this model can also reach 0-100 km/h in 6.2 seconds. Interestingly, the GT version has 5 kW less power than the existing EV5 AWD variant, which can achieve similar acceleration times depending on the trim level.
The EV5 GT rides on 255/45 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV tyres, also mounted on 20-inch alloy wheels. Production for the EV3 GT, EV4 GT, and EV5 GT models is scheduled to commence in the second quarter of this year. Kia Australia has confirmed the EV3 GT will be available in the region.
Kia’s latest offerings reflect the company’s commitment to combining performance with an engaging driving experience, setting the stage for a new era in electric vehicle technology.
