MTN Launches Amazon Leo Satellite Service for Maritime Sector

MTN has finalized an agreement to become an authorized reseller of Amazon Leo, a satellite internet service designed for maritime deployment. This partnership allows MTN to provide enhanced connectivity solutions across various maritime sectors, including commercial shipping, yachting, offshore operations, and cruise and ferry services.

The announcement, made on February 10, 2026, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, marks a significant step in the evolution of satellite communications. Amazon Leo aims to establish one of the most advanced satellite communication systems globally, leveraging a constellation of thousands of satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). This technology promises lower latency and greater transmission capacity compared to traditional geostationary satellites, facilitating real-time applications and improved operational efficiencies.

MTN’s integration of Amazon Leo will enable fast onboard Wi-Fi, enhanced crew communications, and streamlined vessel operations across the world’s oceans. The service aims to cover extensive maritime routes, from the North Atlantic to the South Pacific, ensuring reliable connectivity for users in remote locations.

Steve Ritacco, Senior Vice President of Technology and Product Development at MTN, highlighted the importance of this agreement, stating, “Being selected as an authorized reseller of Amazon Leo network allows us to stay at the forefront of satellite innovation as we expand our multi-network architecture.” Ritacco emphasized that the new service would provide unparalleled flexibility to develop tailored network solutions, ensuring high-performance service even in challenging maritime environments.

In support of this initiative, Trevor Vieweg, Head of Global Business at Amazon Leo, noted that the partnership would significantly enhance maritime operations. He commented, “Using our low-latency satellite network, maritime customers will gain real-time communication capabilities that enable everything from enhanced crew welfare to advanced vessel tracking, remote diagnostics, and seamless integration with shore-based operations.”

This development underscores MTN’s commitment to delivering converged connectivity solutions characterized by speed and reliability. The company’s multi-orbit ecosystem ensures that clients can access fast, secure, and dependable connectivity for mission-critical operations worldwide.

Founded in Florida, MTN operates globally, providing connectivity solutions across various sectors, including maritime, energy, government, and enterprise. The company is recognized for its pioneering efforts in integrating cutting-edge technologies, such as 5G/LTE and high-throughput satellite networks, alongside various LEO constellations including Starlink and OneWeb.

As the demand for robust maritime connectivity continues to grow, MTN’s partnership with Amazon Leo positions the company as a leader in satellite communications, ready to meet the evolving needs of the maritime industry.
