BREAKING: A significant step towards a new independent school in Ballarat has just been confirmed with the purchase of over 11 hectares of farmland on Cuthberts Road. The AngliSchools organization quietly acquired this prime land for $3.5 million on April 30, 2024, marking a pivotal moment in the region’s educational landscape.
This newly purchased land, located at 531 Cuthberts Road, Cardigan, currently features a four-bedroom home but is poised for development into a comprehensive prep to year 12 school by the end of the decade. Authorities are excited about the project’s potential, which aims to serve the growing community and fulfill local educational needs.
AngliSchools Chief Executive Reverend Peter Laurence stated that due diligence is currently being conducted to determine the format and scope of the new school. “Typically, AngliSchools are preparatory to Year 12. They open with a number of year levels, growing year by year until the full complement of prep to Year 12 is reached,” he explained.
This initiative is particularly notable given Ballarat’s reputation as a significant educational hub. Reverend Laurence expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “We’re excited to explore opportunities in Ballarat, a region well-known as a key education hub.” He emphasized a collaborative approach, working closely with community leaders, families, and existing schools to ensure the new institution aligns with community values of faith, inclusion, respect, and excellence.
The newly acquired land sits directly opposite the Lucas housing development and is adjacent to a similar-sized parcel owned by Loreto College, just outside the council’s designated Western Growth Zone. The decision regarding the establishment of the new Anglican school is expected before the end of 2026, creating anticipation among local residents.
Currently, the only Anglican school in Ballarat is Ballarat Grammar, founded in 1911 and known for its prestigious history. The formation of this new school represents a significant expansion of educational opportunities in the area, which has seen rapid growth in recent years.
As this story develops, local families and stakeholders are eagerly watching for updates on the project’s progress. The establishment of the new school not only promises enhanced educational offerings but also reflects Ballarat’s continued evolution as a vibrant and progressive community.
