82-Year-Old Man Axed Defends Himself with Fly Spray in Perth

***online out until after 6pm news MUST CREDIT 7NEWS*** An elderly man has been discharged from hospital after he was hit with an axe during a fight at caravan park.

BREAKING: An 82-year-old man is recovering after being struck with an axe while attempting to defend himself at a caravan park in Caversham, Perth, on October 12, 2023, at approximately 5:30 PM. The shocking incident unfolded when the elderly man confronted a driver speeding down the hill, urging him to slow down.

Victim Albert Bullock, a resident of the park for over 20 years, reported the driver responded aggressively to his plea. “Mate, do you mind slowing down?” Bullock recalled. The driver, described as “going berserk,” retaliated with violence. Bullock managed to spray fly spray into the assailant’s eyes as a last-ditch effort to fend off the attack.

Bullock was subsequently rushed to Royal Perth Hospital for surgery due to severe injuries. “I would have been dead if I hadn’t put my arm up,” he stated, revealing he lost significant blood during the assault and has since lost feeling in two fingers. He expressed uncertainty about whether he would regain sensation.

Despite the traumatic experience, Bullock maintained his humor, joking about the cumbersome cast on his arm, saying, “This thing weighs a bloody tonne. I keep smacking myself in the head with it.”

Bullock praised an off-duty paramedic who provided crucial assistance while neighbors called emergency services. “He was bloody brilliant,” Bullock said of the first responder. He urged his attacker to reconsider his actions, stating, “Come on mate. Get a bloody life for Christ’s sake and leave the oldies alone.”

Authorities are actively investigating the incident, and anyone who witnessed the attack is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000. This incident raises serious concerns about safety in community spaces and the violence that can erupt from seemingly minor confrontations.
