AFL 2025 Draft: Clubs Confirm Picks in Historic Selection Event

BREAKING: The AFL 2025 Draft has concluded, marking a historic event with nearly 60 young footballers securing their spots across the league. Over the past two nights, teams made critical selections, shaping the future of Australian football.

This draft is unprecedented, as it has been labeled the most compromised in history, leading to heart-wrenching stories for some hopefuls, including Jake Stringer and Ryan Byrnes, who were delisted but continue their journeys. The rookie draft is set for Friday, giving these athletes yet another chance to shine.

Among the highlights, the top three picks were confirmed:
1. Willem Duursma at pick No. 1
2. Zeke Uwland at No. 2
3. Harry Dean at No. 3.

The Gold Coast Suns emerged victorious, matching four first-round bids and landing top-tier academy prospects, including Duursma, who is seen as a potential superstar. List manager Kall Burns stated, “It feels great… we’re really excited for the local footy on the Gold Coast.”

The Adelaide Crows selected Mitch Marsh at pick 22, a local star who excelled at the national under-18 championships. National recruiting manager Hamish Ogilvie praised Marsh’s talent and character, highlighting the significance of local connections.

In a surprising twist, the Port Adelaide Power made history by not selecting any players, focusing instead on upgrading existing talent. National recruiting manager Geoff Parker confirmed, “We had a list of players to pick… By the time we got to our pick, the list had disappeared, basically.”

The Brisbane Lions, with an eye on immediate impact, picked Daniel Annable at pick 6 and Koby Evans at 38. National recruiting manager Steve Conole expressed excitement over their new additions.

The Essendon Bombers made waves by securing three first-round picks: Sullivan Robey at 9, Jacob Farrow at 10, and Dyson Sharp at 13. List manager Matt Rosa shared, “We really believed in the top end of this draft… we feel like we’ve walked out with a really good balance.”

While the Sydney Swans focused on developing local talent, they selected Harry Kyle at 14 and were pleased with their overall haul.

The Western Bulldogs and Richmond Tigers also made key selections, aiming to bolster their squads for the upcoming season.

As the dust settles on these selections, all eyes will be on the upcoming rookie draft on Friday, where many of these hopefuls will have another chance to realize their dreams on the AFL stage.

Stay tuned for live updates on player movements and reactions from clubs and fans alike!
