UPDATE: Allora’s iconic Wikner Ford Special is currently en route to Maroubra, set to headline a major celebration this Saturday, December 3, 2025. Owner Doug Partington and his son Bruce Partington will be welcomed by members of the Vintage Sports Car Club of Australia to honor the centenary of the Maroubra Olympic Speedway’s opening event.
The Maroubra Speedway, originally envisioned as Australia’s version of Indianapolis, gained a notorious reputation as the “Killer TRACK” before its closure in the early 1930s. Now a vibrant beach suburb, Maroubra will host the celebration at Coral Sea Park, a site within the original speedway boundaries.
Remarkably, Doug’s Wikner Ford Special is the only surviving car that raced at the inaugural event in 1925. He proudly claims this vehicle has lapped both the Maroubra and Indianapolis speedways, a testament to its unique history and engineering.
The celebration promises to be an emotional gathering, drawing motorsport enthusiasts and community members who cherish the legacy of Australian racing. Following the event, the Wikner will return to Allora, where it will find a permanent home in a newly established glass pavilion at the Allora Sports Museum.
This significant occasion not only commemorates a century of racing history but also strengthens community bonds through shared heritage. The anticipation builds as the Allora community prepares to celebrate the legacy of their beloved Wikner Ford Special.
