Amyl and the Sniffers Announce $35K Free Drinks After Gig Cancelled

UPDATE: Hard rock band Amyl and the Sniffers has just announced a staggering $35,000 in free drinks for fans after their highly anticipated gig was abruptly cancelled due to safety concerns. The Melbourne-based band was set to perform a free, all-ages show at Federation Square on July 15, 2023, but the event was called off just minutes before lead singer Amy Taylor and her bandmates were scheduled to hit the stage.

According to reports, the Melbourne Arts Precinct Corporation, which manages the venue, cited multiple breaches of security barriers as the reason for the cancellation. Authorities confirmed that Victorian Police were called to the scene after a large group of attendees attempted to force their way into the venue, making it unsafe for the performance.

In an emotional Instagram post, Taylor expressed her disappointment saying, “Hello Fed Square and everybody who came to show up, we’re so f**king sorry that we couldn’t play. We genuinely felt really bad, like from the gut; it sucks not to be able to play in our hometown for free.” She emphasized the need for safety, especially as the event was meant for all ages.

In a show of gratitude and solidarity with their fans, the band declared, “Have a drink on us in AC/DC fashion,” opening $5,000 tabs at seven local venues, including The Tote, The Old Bar, and Hell’s Kitchen. This initiative allows fans to enjoy free drinks while the band makes amends for the cancelled performance. The announcement has already garnered over 60,000 likes on social media, highlighting the deep connection between the band and their supporters.

“I was chucking a tantrum like no tomorrow. You can’t imagine it, and I’m so sorry. Just have some fun tonight,” Taylor added, urging fans to enjoy themselves despite the setback.

The cancellation has sparked significant conversation online, with many fans expressing their understanding and appreciation for the band’s gesture. As the evening unfolds, attendees at the participating venues are set to benefit from the generous offer, turning disappointment into a night of celebration.

As this story develops, fans are encouraged to stay tuned for more updates on the band’s future performances and any further statements from Amyl and the Sniffers.
