UPDATE: Bligh Park FC’s Under 15 Girls team has achieved a sensational victory, clinching the Division 1 Grand Final title with a thrilling 2-1 win over Penrith Rovers on September 7, 2024, at Jamison Park. This remarkable triumph marks their first year competing in the top division, showcasing their talent and determination.
The match was a nail-biter that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle. The victory not only secured the Grand Final title but also crowned the team as the overall competition winners after finishing at the top of the ladder. This achievement highlights their exceptional season, which includes winning both the league and Grand Final for the third consecutive year.
Coach Sally Roberts praised her team’s defensive prowess and strong camaraderie as essential ingredients for success. “Building a strong defensive line has worked wonders for us,” she stated. “We’ve had the fewest goals scored against us, and the girls are true friends, which makes them play harder for each other.”
Team captain Taylor Roberts expressed her excitement before the match: “Winning a grand final is an amazing feeling, but what makes it truly special is doing it with such great friends.”
Striker Eden Falkenmire emphasized the squad’s unity, saying, “It shows that we’re a team who trusts each other, works hard together, and isn’t afraid to take risks.” Goalkeeper Emily Dawson added, “This victory shows all the hard work we’ve put in, and now other teams know we’re a side to be reckoned with.”
The team continued their journey by representing Hawkesbury in the prestigious NSW Champion of Champions tournament, playing their opening match against Mount Annan Mustangs FC on September 22, 2024. In a tense encounter, the match ended 0-0 after full time and extra time, leading to a penalty shootout where the Mustangs triumphed 4-2.
Despite this setback, the Bligh Park girls wrapped up their season with an outstanding record: winning their competition, claiming the Grand Final, and reaching the Grand Final of the Nepean Cup—all in their debut year at Division 1.
The proud roster of champions includes: Maddison Rawling, Taylor Roberts, Mela Sutton, Emily Dawson, Zahlia Baldacchino, Eden Falkenmire, Piper Straub, Hannah Salt, Amelia Kent, Charlize Sherry, Mariah Saliba, Indigo Kenny, and Natalia Sherry. The team is guided by coach Sally Roberts and managed by Rebecca Dawson.
For the Bligh Park FC community, these achievements transcend mere victories—they represent resilience, friendship, and an unwavering pursuit of excellence in sports. As the team looks ahead, the determination to keep winning remains strong.
