Bombers Challenge MP Boys in Thrilling Broome Basketball Match

URGENT UPDATE: In a nail-biting showdown on November 5, 2023, at the Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre, the Bombers pushed the top-ranked MP Boys to the limit in the latest round of Broome basketball. Although the Bombers ultimately fell short, the match showcased their resilience and skill, making for an electrifying game that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

The men’s A-grade competition saw the Bombers, currently at the bottom of the standings, facing off against the formidable MP Boys. The first quarter kicked off with both teams evenly matched at 10-10, with Chris Hunter leading the Bombers with four successful baskets. However, the MP Boys began to pull ahead in the second half, thanks to key contributions from C.J. Oakley, Rhys Hajinoor, and Damon Enosa, who each scored two baskets, giving the MP Boys a four-point lead by halftime.

As the third quarter unfolded, the Bombers mounted a fierce counterattack, closing the gap to just one point at 32-31 as they entered the final quarter. The tension was palpable, but the MP Boys capitalized on their shooting accuracy, stretching their lead in the final moments to clinch a 46-33 victory. Oakley topped the scoring charts with an impressive 21 points, while Hunter led the Bombers with 14 points.

In other matches, the Tigers dominated the Gantheaume Pointers, securing a decisive 57-39 win. The Tigers seized control early, with Jarman Cox scoring 24 points and driving the team’s offensive strategy. Despite the Pointers’ attempts to stay competitive, including Tom Schorer‘s contribution of 10 points, the Tigers’ relentless performance sealed their victory.

The men’s social competition also brought excitement, with the Saints delivering a commanding performance against the Cobras, triumphing with a staggering score of 53-23. Done Manjengwa stood out with 20 points, significantly contributing to the Saints’ commanding lead. Additionally, Bayside overcame the Misfits, 53-36, with Simone Cox leading the scoring with 25 points, while the Hornets edged past Broome Best Cleaning Services, 48-36, led by Albuquerque Hunter with 14 points. In a thrilling draw, the Spoonbills and Peninsula Bombers finished tied at 48 all, with Cameron Gatenby scoring an impressive 26 points.

In the women’s competition, the Raiders narrowly defeated the Lady Tigers by just two points, 30-28, with the Tigers’ Katelyn Parriman leading all scorers with 17 points. The close scoreline underscores the competitive spirit of the league as teams vie for positioning as the semester two finals approach.
