UPDATE: Braybrook College’s own Kat McLeod has just been announced as a finalist for a prestigious performing arts educator scholarship, which recognizes outstanding theatre educators across Australia and New Zealand. This scholarship, valued at $14,000, is awarded by performing arts group tour specialists Travel Gang and will enable the winner to embark on a transformative journey across the USA in January 2024.

The scholarship winner will participate in exclusive Broadway workshops in New York City, a Disney performing arts workshop in Los Angeles, and the renowned Junior Theatre Festival in Atlanta. Kat McLeod expressed her gratitude for the recognition, stating, “It’s a real honour to be shortlisted among so many amazing people doing such incredible things for drama education.”

With a heartfelt nod to her influences, McLeod added, “I’m here because I had incredible teachers myself. As the head of drama at Braybrook College since 2020, McLeod teaches Year 10 and VCE drama, VCE theatre studies, and media to students from Year 7 to 10. Her dedication extends beyond the classroom; she actively supports Victoria’s drama community through her role on the Drama Victoria Committee of Management.

The winner of this highly competitive scholarship is set to be announced in mid-October 2023, creating a buzz of excitement and anticipation in the arts education community. McLeod’s passion for introducing students to live theatre is evident as she shares, “Seeing how that experience can change them and light a spark in them is magic.”

As the announcement date approaches, the spotlight remains on McLeod, whose commitment to fostering the next generation of theatre enthusiasts resonates with many. This scholarship not only represents a career milestone for her but also signifies the impact of dedicated educators on students’ lives.

Stay tuned for updates as the theatre community awaits the final decision, with all eyes on Kat McLeod and her inspiring journey in the performing arts. This is a story of recognition, legacy, and the transformative power of education.
