UPDATE: Braybrook College’s own Kat McLeod has just been announced as a finalist for a prestigious performing arts educator scholarship, which recognizes outstanding theatre educators across Australia and New Zealand. This scholarship, valued at $14,000, is awarded by performing arts group tour specialists Travel Gang and will enable the winner to embark on a transformative journey across the USA in January 2024.
The scholarship winner will participate in exclusive Broadway workshops in New York City, a Disney performing arts workshop in Los Angeles, and the renowned Junior Theatre Festival in Atlanta. Kat McLeod expressed her gratitude for the recognition, stating, “It’s a real honour to be shortlisted among so many amazing people doing such incredible things for drama education.”
With a heartfelt nod to her influences, McLeod added, “I’m here because I had incredible teachers myself. I’d like to recognise them as well while I’m being recognised.” The emotional connection runs deep as she recalls her late father, a drama teacher for over 50 years, emphasizing her commitment to continuing his legacy.
As the head of drama at Braybrook College since 2020, McLeod teaches Year 10 and VCE drama, VCE theatre studies, and media to students from Year 7 to 10. Her dedication extends beyond the classroom; she actively supports Victoria’s drama community through her role on the Drama Victoria Committee of Management.
The winner of this highly competitive scholarship is set to be announced in mid-October 2023, creating a buzz of excitement and anticipation in the arts education community.
