Brisbane Pro-Palestine March Set for Tomorrow Amid Route Changes

URGENT UPDATE: A significant pro-Palestine march is scheduled for tomorrow in Brisbane, despite a late-breaking route change and a court ruling denying access to the Story Bridge. The event kicks off at 1 PM at Queens Gardens in the city center, where speakers, including ousted Greens MP Max Chandler-Mather and representatives from the Electrical Trades Union, will address attendees before the march proceeds down William Street, across the Victoria Bridge, and concludes at Musgrave Park in South Brisbane.

Organizers are anticipating a substantial turnout, with numbers expected to exceed the initial prediction of 7,000 participants. Organizer Remah Naji stated, “We do expect that at the very least 7,000 people will show up. However, it does look like we’ll get more than that.” This surge in expected participants follows a similar event in Sydney, where police estimates suggest over 100,000 attended a march across the Harbour Bridge.

The march comes on the heels of a significant decision by Chief Magistrate Janelle Brassington, who ruled against the protesters’ plans to cross the Story Bridge. Protesters gathered outside Brisbane Magistrates Court earlier this week to voice their frustrations over this ruling, underscoring the high stakes of this demonstration.

Naji encourages all to join, stating, “This is going to be an incredible day of community while we show solidarity with the Palestinian people and pressure our government.” The event is expected to be a powerful display of unity, aiming to amplify voices advocating for Palestinian rights.

As the clock ticks down to tomorrow’s event, the atmosphere is charged with anticipation, and community leaders are rallying support. The Brisbane community is urged to come out, bring friends and family, and participate in what promises to be a historic day of activism.

Stay tuned for more updates as the march unfolds, and follow our coverage for the latest developments.
