Central West Australia Braces for Snow as Cold Front Arrives

Residents of the Central West region of Australia are preparing for a potential snowfall as a cold front moves across the southeastern parts of the country. On July 10, 2025, areas in the Central Tablelands could experience snow at elevations as low as 900 metres, according to Weatherzone meteorologist Craig Mitchell.

The cold front is expected to introduce a “colder, showery air mass” throughout the Central Tablelands. Mitchell noted that the conditions are conducive to snowfall, particularly around the Oberon area and west of Katoomba. He forecasted that snowfall could range from three to eight centimetres on the ground during the morning, with the potential for snow showers to begin as early as sunrise.

Mitchell indicated that the heaviest snowfall is likely to occur in the mid to late morning. “There is quite likely to be some snow around the Central Tablelands area,” he stated. Residents should be prepared for snowy conditions as the day progresses, particularly in the areas mentioned.

This winter, parts of the Central West have already seen significant snow, including the region near Orange. Earlier in June, heavy snow, ice, and fog led to road closures in the Mount Canobolas area, highlighting the impact of winter weather on local infrastructure.

As the forecast develops, residents are encouraged to stay updated on weather conditions, especially those planning to travel in affected areas. The combination of snow and cold temperatures could lead to hazardous driving conditions and other challenges throughout the day.
