CNN Reveals Innovations Driving a Greener Future NOW!

UPDATE: CNN’s Tomorrow Transformed just aired its latest episode, spotlighting urgent global innovations aimed at creating a cleaner, sustainable future. Viewers are witnessing groundbreaking advancements in renewable energy, including sustainable aviation fuel and next-generation hydrogen power systems.

In a world increasingly focused on environmental solutions, this episode highlights transformative technologies from across the globe. The series travels to Sydney, Australia, where the University of New South Wales (UNSW) is at the forefront of solar energy innovation. Professor Martin Green, known as the “father of solar energy,” is leading efforts with his PERC Cell design, now utilized in over 90% of solar cells installed worldwide.

Meanwhile, researchers like Professor Ned Ekins-Daukes and PhD student Jamie Harrison are making strides in thermodynamics to harness energy as heat escapes the Earth’s surface. With solar energy now the cheapest in history, they are determined to eliminate manufacturing obstacles that hinder further progress.

Next, the series heads to Cape Town, South Africa, where the startup HYENA is revolutionizing hydrogen power. Co-founder Jack Fletcher introduces their “Power Pod” technology, which converts fuels like LPG into electricity through a chemical process instead of combustion. This innovation drastically cuts emissions and reduces noise, providing a cleaner alternative to traditional diesel generators.

The journey continues in Johor, Malaysia, where biofuels company EcoCeres is making waves in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). At their cutting-edge biorefinery, they transform waste oil from food factories and restaurants into eco-friendly jet fuel, ready to power major airlines, including Cathay Pacific, Qantas, and British Airways. With plans to produce 420,000 tonnes of fuel annually, EcoCeres is set to change the face of air travel.

CEO Matti Lievonen emphasizes the importance of their innovative waste-to-fuel system, stating that their model is not only sustainable but scalable across Southeast Asia and beyond.

As the global community seeks to combat climate change, these stories of innovation and determination resonate deeply with audiences. The next time you board a flight, it might just be powered by recycled cooking oil from a street food stall in Malaysia or a factory in Beijing.

Catch the full episode of Tomorrow Transformed to discover more about these vital advancements in sustainability. Don’t miss it: the special aired on December 28, 2025, at 5 AM, 12 PM, and 8 PM HKT.

Stay tuned to CNN for ongoing coverage of these critical developments and the future of our planet.
