Diver Dies After Distress Call at Nelson Bay, NSW

URGENT UPDATE: A scuba diver has tragically died after being pulled unconscious from the water at Fly Point, Nelson Bay, in the Hunter Region, NSW. Emergency services responded to distress calls at approximately 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 14, 2023, highlighting the urgent need for rescue efforts.

Authorities, including the Marine Area Command, Port Stephens-Hunter Police District, and the Raptor Squad, swiftly arrived at the scene to assist. The diver, a woman believed to be in her 50s, was dragged from the water in an unresponsive state.

Despite immediate intervention from NSW Ambulance paramedics, who worked tirelessly to revive her at the location, she was transported to Tomaree Community Hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries en route, underscoring the severe impact of this incident.

As of now, the woman has not been formally identified. In response to this tragic event, local police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. A report will be prepared for the coroner, aiming to provide clarity on what led to this devastating outcome.
