Driver Caught Again Hours After License Suspension – Faces Court

UPDATE: A man has found himself in court after being caught driving again just hours after his license was suspended, raising serious concerns about road safety. Jack Clifton, aged 23, was pulled over for speeding at over 45 km/h above the limit on June 28, 2025, at 8:40 PM. Following this incident, police suspended his license and confiscated his number plates on the spot.

However, in a shocking turn of events, authorities reported that Clifton was caught driving again at 1:20 AM the following morning on Dalton Street, Orange. The vehicle had no number plates, a direct result of the earlier traffic stop. When questioned by police, Clifton stated, “I was trying to get my car home.”

Despite being breath tested, Clifton returned a negative alcohol reading. On August 7, 2025, Magistrate Gary Wilson addressed Clifton’s reckless behavior in court. “You got picked up for speeding, you got suspended on the spot, then decided later that night to drive,” he remarked. “That’s pretty stupid.”

Clifton represented himself in court and accepted the magistrate’s summary of events. He disclosed that he has set up a payment plan to manage the substantial $5,800 in traffic fines he accrued from this incident. Notably, Clifton mentioned that it was the same police officer involved in both traffic stops, highlighting a significant lapse in judgment.

Magistrate Wilson emphasized the severity of Clifton’s actions, stating, “You are driving with no plates, suspended. You received six months [suspension] for the speeding. This offense carries up to six months’ imprisonment, which you must contemplate for the next six months.” Ultimately, Clifton was convicted for driving while his license was suspended, and his license was disqualified for an additional three months—the shortest disqualification period permissible.

Given Clifton’s financial burden from previous fines, Magistrate Wilson opted not to impose further penalties. This incident raises alarming questions about road safety and the consequences of reckless driving, underscoring the critical need for responsible behavior behind the wheel.

As this case develops, it serves as a stark reminder of the potential legal ramifications and dangers associated with driving under suspension. Authorities continue to urge drivers to adhere to traffic laws to ensure the safety of all road users.
