BREAKING: The Eaglehawk Recycle Centre has been officially saved, with the City of Greater Bendigo taking over management and operations. This crucial development comes as city officials confirm the centre will operate alongside other local recycling facilities in Strathfieldsaye, Heathcote, and Goornong.
City presentation and assets director Brian Westley announced that residents will still be able to dispose of recyclable items for free at the drive-through drop-off point located at the landfill entrance. However, sales of second-hand and recycled goods will be paused until mid-November as the city undertakes necessary improvements and safety upgrades to the sales area.
“Upon reopening, residents can expect a fantastic range of second-hand items at bargain prices,” Westley stated. He urged the community for patience during this transition period, apologizing in advance for any inconvenience caused.
In the short term, the city has employed staff through an agency arrangement with Programmed, a leading staffing and facility management service. This arrangement allows some existing Eaglehawk Recycle Shop staff to retain their positions at the new centre.
“We appreciate the previous management of the facility and are eager to welcome both existing and new customers to the Eaglehawk Recycling Centre in the near future,” Westley added.
As the city moves forward with these changes, residents are encouraged to stay informed about job opportunities and updates via the city’s usual communication channels. This transition marks a significant step in enhancing recycling services for the community, ensuring a sustainable future for waste management in the region.
Stay tuned for further updates on the Eaglehawk Recycle Centre as it prepares for a new chapter in its service to the community.
