East Sunbury Thunder Secures Second Win Amid Challenging Season

UPDATE: The East Sunbury Thunder has clinched a crucial second victory, defeating the Northern Saints 15.16 (106) to 11.11 (77) in a match that took place earlier today. This win marks a significant boost for the club during a challenging season in the Essendon District Football League Division 2.

After breaking a staggering 1200-day losing streak with a win in their first match of the season, the Thunder has faced setbacks, including two postponed games against local rivals. Despite these challenges, club president Paul Whittington remains optimistic about the team’s morale and future prospects.

“The mood isn’t negative,” Whittington stated. “There’s a lot getting to training and working on progression and working skills.” The Thunder’s recent victory was powered by a strong second half, where they outscored their opponents with nine goals to five.

As they look to build on this momentum, the Thunder will face Rupertswood in their upcoming match, and Whittington is hopeful for a large crowd to support the team. He emphasized that the atmosphere at the club is vibrant, with a sense of community evident during recent events, including a BBQ that attracted 150 attendees from all age groups.

On the women’s side, the Thunder is also seeing positive developments under new coaching staff, with a focus on improving scores. The club’s junior program is thriving, with the under-16 team qualifying for finals and the under-14s showing promise.

As the Thunder continues its journey, all eyes will be on their next match. The club is determined to maintain this winning spirit and foster a positive environment that keeps players and supporters engaged.

Stay tuned for more updates on the East Sunbury Thunder as they aim for further victories in the coming weeks.
