UPDATE: A 73-year-old woman has tragically died following a serious crash in Parkes, NSW, earlier this month. The incident, which involved two vehicles, occurred around 2 PM on January 7 at the intersection of Newell Highway and Forbes Road.
Emergency services rushed to the scene after reports of the collision between a sedan and an SUV. The elderly woman was a passenger in the sedan driven by an 87-year-old man. Both were treated for severe injuries at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being transported to local hospitals. The man was taken to Orange Hospital, while the woman was airlifted to Liverpool Hospital and later transferred to Royal North Shore Hospital.
The driver of the SUV, a 70-year-old woman, was also airlifted, suffering serious injuries and taken to Westmead Hospital. Fortunately, three passengers in the SUV were unharmed.
As investigations progress, specialists from the Crash Investigation Unit have been examining the crime scene set by officers from the Central West Police District. Authorities have confirmed that the elderly woman succumbed to her injuries on January 24.
Police are actively seeking any witnesses who may have information about the crash or who were in the vicinity at the time. They urge those with dashcam or mobile phone footage to contact Parkes Police Station or Crime Stoppers at 1800-333-000.
