UPDATE: Thomastown is set to illuminate the night on August 30, 2023, with the highly anticipated Walking Thomastown event, running from 6 PM to 9 PM. Grab your friends and family for a vibrant night as familiar streets transform into a glowing spectacle of art and community.
This year, participants will embark on a 1.6 km route starting at the Main Street Recreation Reserve, winding through scenic Edgars Creek, and culminating at the historic Westgarthtown pioneer precinct. With dazzling neon lights and immersive art installations, this free event promises a magical experience for all ages.
Whittlesea Mayor Martin Taylor encourages locals to engage with their community and enjoy the end of winter. “Walking Thomastown is a fantastic way to see our community in a new light,” he stated. “It’s a vibrant celebration of local stories, creativity, and connection that brings people together.”
This year’s spectacular program includes the much-loved Neon Dog Park, projection art from emerging and First Peoples artists, and large-scale light installations. Attendees can also enjoy live performances, food vans, fire-twirlers, stilt-walkers, and face-painters, making it a night filled with excitement and entertainment.
Don’t forget to bring a torch and wear comfortable shoes, as the walk features an easy, flat path suitable for everyone. This unique event not only celebrates local culture but also fosters community connection.
