Fertilizer Prices Surge: Summit’s Insights at Dowerin Field Days

UPDATE: Fertilizer prices are set to rise significantly in 2026, causing alarm among Wheatbelt growers at the 2025 Dowerin Machinery Field Days. During discussions, Wayne Foot, executive manager of marketing and sales at Summit Fertilizers, confirmed that prices for essential products like MAP and DAP are projected to increase by at least $200 per tonne compared to this year.

“This uncertainty is causing a bit of grief among our growers,” Foot stated. He elaborated that the anticipated price hikes are a major concern for farmers planning for the upcoming cropping season.

Summit Fertilizers is actively engaging with growers to help them navigate these challenges. “We’re trying to understand what this means for our growers and how we can assist them,” Foot added. The urgency of the situation is clear as growers must adapt quickly to the changing market conditions.

In addition to pricing discussions, the performance of BiOWiSH, a bacteria-based fertilizer recently introduced in Western Australia, has garnered attention. Foot noted that the results from 16 trials indicate positive outcomes as a nutrient booster for crops.

Moreover, the integration of CropX technology, which combines soil sensors with digital platforms, aims to help farmers optimize soil moisture utilization. “We’re installing moisture probes, weather stations, and rain gauges at trial sites across WA to support our growers,” Foot explained.

The interaction at Dowerin isn’t just about business; it’s also about fostering relationships. Foot emphasized the importance of having open dialogues with customers, making field days a prime opportunity for growers to share their concerns and insights.

As the agricultural community gears up for the next season, the implications of these price increases and innovative technologies will be pivotal. Farmers are encouraged to stay informed and proactive as they prepare for the challenges ahead. The urgency is palpable, and the need for effective solutions is more critical than ever.

Stay tuned for further updates as the situation develops and more information becomes available.
