Gisborne Boosts Public Transport with 66 New Bus Trips Weekly

URGENT UPDATE: Gisborne is set to enhance its public transport services with a significant boost of 66 extra bus trips each week, announced by Public and Active Transport Minister Gabrielle Williams. Starting from Sunday, November 16, the additional services will operate on routes 73 and 74, allowing residents greater accessibility and convenience for weekend outings.

Residents can now enjoy more flexible travel options, as bus services will run later into the evening on weekends. This development is especially beneficial for those looking to enjoy a night out in Gisborne or access the Gisborne Central Shopping Centre, local schools, medical clinics, aged care centres, and the Gisborne Train Station. The new schedule will facilitate easy connections for residents traveling to the Melbourne CBD for evening events or football games, ensuring they can return home on the same day.

Both bus routes will maintain an average frequency of every 60 minutes, operating in a two-way loop throughout the day. Key service times have been updated as follows: Route 73 will now run until 11:19 PM on Saturdays and 10:19 PM on Sundays. Route 74 will extend its Friday services until 12:18 AM, Saturdays until 10:58 PM, and Sundays until 9:58 PM.

“We understand the critical role reliable public transport plays in local communities,” said Minister Williams. “These additional bus services will make it easier for Gisborne locals to enjoy their weekends. Our regional fare cap has also made it more affordable for Victorians to access events across the state, ensuring that residents can travel effortlessly.”

Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas expressed her support for the announcement, highlighting the positive impact on the community. “These extra services will be a great benefit for Gisborne residents, allowing them to connect easily with local amenities, schools, and important appointments,” she stated.

This announcement builds on last year’s improvements to the Gisborne transport network, which introduced a more flexible bus system, expanded service hours, and improved coverage to new estates and schools.

As the demand for reliable public transport continues to grow, Gisborne’s enhanced bus services are poised to make a significant difference in the daily lives of its residents. Whether it’s shopping, attending school, or accessing medical care, these upgrades promise to facilitate essential travel while boosting local engagement.

Stay tuned for more updates as Gisborne prepares for these new transport changes. Share this news to inform fellow residents about the exciting improvements to their public transport options!
