Hyundai NEXO Scores Top Five-Star Safety Rating in Euro NCAP

BREAKING: The all-new Hyundai NEXO has just achieved a five-star rating in the latest Euro NCAP safety assessment, marking a major milestone for the company’s hydrogen fuel-cell electric SUV. This announcement, made by Hyundai Motor Company on December 15, 2025, underscores the brand’s unwavering commitment to safety and zero-emission mobility.

The NEXO excelled in all major safety categories, recording 90 percent in Adult Occupant Protection and 85 percent in Child Occupant Protection. Notably, it secured maximum points for adult whiplash protection during rear impact tests and for six- and ten-year-old child dummies in both frontal and side impact evaluations.

This latest accolade reinforces Hyundai’s legacy of safety excellence, following previous five-star ratings for its IONIQ models — the IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, and IONIQ 9. The consistent performance in crash protection showcases Hyundai’s dedication to not only protecting its drivers but all road users.

“Safety is central to every vehicle we develop,” said a spokesperson from Hyundai Motor Company. “The NEXO’s recognition highlights our commitment to pioneering safety and innovation in the zero-emission segment.”

Euro NCAP, Europe’s premier independent vehicle safety assessment organization, evaluates cars based on four key areas: adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, vulnerable road user protection, and safety assistance technologies. The NEXO’s outstanding results reflect Hyundai’s ongoing advancements in safety technology and fuel-cell engineering.

This achievement also marks a significant moment in Hyundai’s journey with hydrogen technology, as the previous generation NEXO was the first fuel-cell electric vehicle ever tested by Euro NCAP in 2018, also earning a five-star rating under that year’s evaluation standards.

As the automotive industry increasingly shifts towards sustainable mobility solutions, the NEXO stands out as a leading example. With its only emissions being water vapor, it embodies Hyundai’s vision for a cleaner future. The five-star safety rating is not just a badge of honor but a testament to the rigorous safety measures implemented in the vehicle’s design.

Hyundai’s NEXO is a pivotal player in the growing market for fuel-cell electric vehicles (FCEVs), setting a benchmark for safety and performance. Consumers looking for a reliable and environmentally friendly vehicle can find confidence in the rigorous evaluations and stellar safety ratings.

Looking ahead, Hyundai plans to continue advancing its safety features and innovations, ensuring that future models maintain the highest standards in both safety and sustainability. This ongoing commitment is expected to keep the NEXO and other Hyundai vehicles in the spotlight as leaders in safety and eco-friendly technology.
