URGENT UPDATE: Fast bowler Jhye Richardson has been officially called back to Australia’s team camp just ahead of the highly anticipated Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Reports from News Corp confirm that Richardson is en route to Melbourne to join the Test squad as they prepare for the fourth match of The Ashes series.

This development is significant as it suggests that Richardson could make his first Test appearance in over four years, especially with Australia expected to make changes to their pace attack. His return means he will likely miss the Perth Scorchers Boxing Day clash against the Hobart Hurricanes, highlighting the urgency of his integration into the national side.

Richardson was previously released to play for the Scorchers, where they faced a high-scoring defeat against the Brisbane Heat on Friday night. He had opted for shoulder stabilisation surgery in January, sidelining him for a large part of the year. His comeback included two red-ball matches against England’s reserves, the England Lions, coinciding with the first two Tests of the series.

In the lead-up to this pivotal match, Captain Pat Cummins has expressed doubts about his own participation in the MCG Test after returning from a back injury. Meanwhile, bowler Mitchell Starc has confirmed he will take the field despite dealing with a heavy workload during the previous test.

Richardson’s last Test appearance was in 2021, where he achieved a remarkable five-wicket haul against England in Adelaide. As the team gears up for this crucial moment in The Ashes, fans and players alike are eager to see if Richardson can contribute to Australia’s efforts in the remaining matches.

Stay tuned for further updates as the situation develops leading up to the Boxing Day Test.
