Kangaroo Valley Show Returns with Unique Events, Celebrations

URGENT UPDATE: The highly anticipated Kangaroo Valley Show kicks off on February 13 and 14, 2023, bringing 139 years of agricultural tradition to Osborne Park. This year’s show promises an array of unique events, blending community spirit with rich heritage, making it a must-attend celebration.

With a lineup featuring exhilarating horse racing, thrilling canoe sprints, and a live cheese judging event, attendees can expect an unforgettable experience. Media coordinator Julie Ward describes the show as “something special,” emphasizing its charm and community focus.

The show, fondly known as the Friendly Show, will host traditional agricultural competitions alongside innovative activities that highlight the Valley’s character. “Kangaroo Valley is known as the canoe capital of the world, and so in 2023, we introduced canoe racing,” Ward stated. Participants will sprint while carrying canoes, a spectacle unlike any other.

The horse arena remains the heart of the event. “Year on year, our horse section has grown, and it’s become the centre of the show,” Ward explained, noting the addition of thoroughbred racing featuring horses retrained for equestrian sports. “It’s a really beautiful second-chance story.”

The community fervor surrounding the show is palpable, with a public holiday dedicated to the first day. “Kids burst with excitement to get in the gate at 8:30 AM,” Ward remarked, highlighting the deep-rooted tradition that brings families together.

Adding to the excitement, the Valley Shorts short film festival returns, showcasing local talent with screenings scheduled for 7 PM on February 13. Food lovers can indulge in a variety of offerings, including an Angus beef burger bar run by local farmers and drinks from four local distilleries.

The live cheese judging, a rare feature in the region, allows visitors to observe judges tasting and commenting on cheeses, making for an educational experience. “We really have something for everyone,” Ward concluded.

Tickets are available online and at the gate, but hurry—this unique celebration is expected to draw large crowds. Don’t miss out on the chance to be part of this vibrant community event!
