Kids Bake Cupcakes for Seniors in Perth Telethon Fundraiser

News. Children from Growing Cherubs family home daycare visit the retired residents of Barridale Lodge Kingsley to make cupcakes to sell for Telethon. Resident Brian Cox with Harry McPherson 4yo and Tane Unver 4yo.

URGENT UPDATE: Today, laughter and joy filled Barridale Lodge Kingsley as children from the Growing Cherubs Family Home Daycare teamed up with seniors to bake cupcakes for the 2025 Telethon. This heartwarming event not only aimed to raise funds but also strengthened the bonds between generations.

The weekly visit from these daycare children, cherished by the elderly residents, became even more special as they came together to create delicious treats. Rory Fryters, chief executive of Elderbloom Community Care Centres, emphasized the importance of this intergenerational playgroup. “It continues to foster meaningful connections to the community for our residents, as well as for the children and their families,” he stated.

Today’s baking session was particularly poignant, filled with flour, sprinkles, and frosting. Daycare owner Frances Svilicich noted that both the children and seniors are familiar with Telethon, making the bake sale an easy and enthusiastic choice. “The kids have been talking about Telethon and they wanted to do something for the children,” she explained, adding, “I think it’ll be a yearly event now.”

Seven-year-old Sienna Edwards expressed her excitement, saying, “I want to help other kids so they can go home to their families.” The sentiment was echoed by resident Brian Cox, who reminisced about Telethon’s beginnings. “We are glad to get the kids involved in fundraising like this. I love doing it,” he said with a smile.

There is still time for others to host bake sales or morning teas before the July 30 deadline. Interested participants can register to contribute to this noble cause by visiting the provided link. The main Telethon event will take place at RAC Arena and in the Perth CBD on October 18-19. Funds raised will benefit sick and vulnerable children in Western Australia.

The 26-hour broadcast will feature exhilarating performances and generous donations, all aimed at improving the lives of the region’s most vulnerable kids. This inspiring initiative showcases the power of community and the impact of coming together for a common cause.

Stay tuned for more updates as this incredible event unfolds, and consider sharing this heartwarming story to spread the word about the ongoing efforts to support WA children in need.
