Late Sarika Gupta’s Organ Donation Saves Four Lives in Urgent Act

URGENT UPDATE: The legacy of Sarika Gupta, a beloved mother from Tarneit, continues to thrive through her organ donations, which saved the lives of four strangers. Following a tragic brain haemorrhage during a family trip to Pune, her family is now advocating for the crucial need for organ donation.

On October 17, 2023, Sarika, aged 46, traveled from Melbourne with her husband, Kedarnath Gupta, and their two sons to celebrate Diwali in India. Just days later, she reported feeling unwell and suffered a sudden brain haemorrhage and severe lung infection. Tragically, she was declared brain dead on November 2, 2023.

In the midst of their grief, Kedarnath remembered Sarika’s repeated wishes to donate her organs. “A few times we were just sitting and discussing things,” he recounted. “She said just in case something happens to me, I would love to have my organs donated.” After heartfelt discussions with their two sons, the family decided to honor her final wish.

With the assistance of local authorities and the Australian Embassy, Sarika’s organs were successfully donated, leading to life-saving procedures for four recipients. Her heart was transported to Mumbai, while her liver and kidneys were transplanted in Pune. “Last we heard they all were doing well and recovering,” Kedarnath shared, highlighting the profound impact of her generosity.

Kedarnath expressed solace in knowing that Sarika’s heart continues to beat. “It gives me a bit of comfort that her heart is still pumping somewhere…because of her, those four people are still alive,” he stated. This act of selflessness not only saved lives but also offers a message of hope and compassion in a world often marked by selfishness.

The Gupta family wants the community to understand the life-changing impact of organ donation. “Giving is always good—it doesn’t matter what you are giving,” Kedarnath emphasized. “In today’s selfish world, it is very hard when you want to give someone something for nothing in return.”

The family’s story serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of organ donation and its potential to bring life and hope to others. As they navigate their grief, the Gupta family urges everyone to consider the invaluable gift of life through organ donation.

As this story unfolds, the Gupta family hopes their experience inspires others to discuss organ donation and consider making the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of saving lives.
