Laurimar Power Dominates Ivanhoe, Sets Up Clash with Stars

URGENT UPDATE: Laurimar Power has secured a commanding victory over Ivanhoe, winning 15.12 (102) to 5.13 (43) in their Northern Football League division 3 semi-final match on July 15, 2023. This decisive win sets up a highly anticipated clash with the undefeated Fitzroy Stars, who claimed the minor premiership and had a bye in the first week of finals.

In an intense matchup, Laurimar showed resilience, overcoming a sluggish first half to enter the break with a 21-point lead. The team surged in the second half, dominating play and showcasing their skill, particularly in the final quarter. Coach Jimmy Atkins expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, highlighting their ability to adapt after a challenging start.

“It was good and we played well,” said Atkins. “The second half we were able to get our run going and win more of the contested ball.” The coach credited the young players, especially Patrick Fitzgerald, who kicked five goals, proving the firepower the team had sought in his recruitment.

Defensive standout Cooper Herbert was named best on ground, with additional praise for teammates Bailey Macleod, Ethan Bateman, and brothers Joel and Jacob Lawson. Atkins emphasized the importance of experience, noting that the team had navigated numerous close matches throughout the season, preparing them for the high stakes of finals.

The upcoming semi-final against Fitzroy Stars promises to be a thrilling encounter. The Stars defeated Laurimar by just eight points in their last meeting during round 14, making this clash particularly significant. “Sometimes you can get stuck on what the opposition wants to do and it gives you nightmares,” Atkins stated. “We will focus on our game and play four quarters to give ourselves a chance.”

Meanwhile, Ivanhoe will face Kilmore in a knockout semi-final this week, as finals intensify in the Northern Football League. The stakes are high, and every moment counts in the pursuit of championship glory.

Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as Laurimar Power prepares for their next challenge!
