UPDATE: Laurimar Power has just secured a spot in the Grand Final of the Northern Football League Division 3 with an impressive victory over the previously undefeated Fitzroy Stars. The match, held on September 30, 2023, saw Laurimar dominate early, leading 41-6 at the end of the first quarter and ultimately winning 13.14 (92) to 13 (61).
The Power, regarded as underdogs, shocked many with their performance. Coach Jimmy Atkins expressed his excitement, stating, “It was really good and the boys were impressive. It was reward for effort.” Laurimar’s strong start was pivotal, allowing them to maintain a significant lead throughout the game.
Despite some second-quarter scoring from the Stars, Laurimar kept the score gap steady, with a commanding 40-point margin for much of the second half. The Fitzroy Stars managed to score late in the game, but it was too little, too late as Laurimar had already established their dominance.
Notably, Patrick Fitzgerald led the Power with four goals, while Kaiden Arthur contributed three goals. Atkins also highlighted standout performances from players like Jai Langford, Cooper Herbert, and Bailey Macleod. He credited the strength of his backline as a crucial factor in their success.
Looking ahead, Laurimar will have a week off before facing either the Fitzroy Stars or Ivanhoe in the Grand Final. The Power’s reserves team has also advanced to the finals, showcasing the club’s strong culture and competitive spirit. “To have three sides still in finals is good for the culture of the club,” Atkins remarked.
As the excitement builds for the Grand Final, Laurimar Power fans are eager to see if their team can clinch the championship title. Stay tuned for further updates on this thrilling journey!
