Leeton Celebrates Triumphs and Losses: Top Stories from 2025

As the year wraps up, Leeton Golf Club celebrated the grand opening of its new clubhouse in October, a significant milestone after nearly facing closure in 2013. Club president John Martin expressed the overwhelming joy at the event, stating, “It’s pretty amazing that we’ve reached this stage.” His remarks emphasize the community’s dedication to preserving the golf course, which has now become a vibrant hub for local residents.

Meanwhile, local hero Nathan Langridge inspired many with his ambitious goal of running across the Nullarbor, aiming to raise $100,000 for mental health organization Beyond Blue. The challenge, spanning 4,000 kilometers from Perth to Sydney, is set to kick off in September. Langridge, a passionate runner, stated, “I’m not wanting to break any records… I just like running.” His journey has garnered support from the community, eager to back his cause.

In the realm of arts and crafts, husband-and-wife duo Scott and Rebecca Rowlings have been pivotal in preserving traditional skills at Mon Repos Narrandera. Her daughter, Lauren, shared, “Her warmth and dedication will be sorely missed by family, friends, and all those who knew her.”

In a story of remarkable achievement, young para-athlete Lucy Gilmour captured gold at the School Sport Australia Cross-Country Championships. Not only did she excel in her individual event, but she also helped her team secure victory in the team competition. Gilmour credits her success to unwavering family support, stating, “I always have my mum or nan next to me talking me through it.”
