LMA Launches New Liverpool Branch for Community Support Today

URGENT UPDATE: The Lebanese Muslim Association (LMA) has officially opened its new Social Services Department branch in Liverpool, Sydney, today, July 23, 2025. This significant milestone marks a robust commitment to enhancing support for the local community, particularly for young migrants and humanitarian entrants.

The opening ceremony, held earlier today, began with a traditional Welcome To Country and an Acknowledgement of Country, underscoring the LMA’s dedication to respecting local heritage. CEO Khal Asfour delivered a compelling address, highlighting the LMA’s 63-year journey and its vision for the future of culturally diverse communities across Australia.

Community leaders expressed their enthusiasm about the new branch. Vice President Raed Halabi remarked, “The LMA recognizes the vital need for representation in the Liverpool area as our community now resides here in vast numbers. Exciting times are ahead, definitely.”

During the ceremony, LMA Executive Manager Nicole Morell emphasized the branch’s role in empowering local youth. “The LMA Social Service Department will be a vital resource for young people and communities in Liverpool and beyond,” she stated, promising practical help, emotional support, and pathways to stability.

A key highlight was the unveiling of the Youth Transition Support (YTS) Program, specifically designed for newly arrived migrants aged 15 to 25. The program aims to facilitate employment, education, vocational pathways, social inclusion, and cultural integration.

One participant, Aly Mashaly, shared his emotional journey stemming from the program. Originally from Egypt, he expressed gratitude for the support that helped him acquire life skills and secure employment as a barista. His story reflects the profound impact the LMA aims to have on individuals and families in the area.

The LMA President, Hafez Alameddine, along with board members, cut the ceremonial red ribbon, officially opening the facility located at Level 2, 59 Scott Street, Liverpool. Guests were invited to tour the new facility, followed by a light lunch and networking opportunities.

The Liverpool branch epitomizes the LMA’s commitment to being more accessible and inclusive. Program Manager Joy Siamoa echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of community support in fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment among residents.

This urgent development not only enhances immediate resources for local families but also signifies a progressive step towards a more cohesive, supportive community. As the LMA continues to evolve, residents can look forward to increased engagement and support, ensuring that Liverpool remains a welcoming environment for all.
