Local Photography Society Showcases 62 Years of Talent Starting Today

UPDATE: The St George Leagues Club Photography Society is set to showcase its members’ talents in an exciting exhibition starting today, October 17, 2023, at Rockdale Plaza, outside Big W. For the next two weeks, until October 31, photography enthusiasts will present their most captivating work, drawing attention to the artistry and skill developed over an impressive 62 years.

This exhibition marks a significant milestone for the society, which has been a hub for photography enthusiasts since its inception in 1963. With advancements in technology, the club emphasizes the importance of traditional photography while embracing modern techniques, utilizing smartphones, drones, and compact cameras. Members aim to create a welcoming environment, encouraging individuals of all ages and backgrounds to participate.

Kerri Wright, a member of the society for four years, highlighted the diverse skill levels within the group. “We want everyone to feel welcome,” she stated. “We have a few professionals in the group who nurture and help the others gain new skills.” The society fosters a community atmosphere, including members on the NDIS and those who are retired, showcasing the inclusive nature of their gatherings.

The club meets every Thursday at 7:30 PM at Arncliffe Scots Club, providing opportunities for photo evaluations, guest speakers, and themed portrait nights. Wright noted the excitement surrounding the upcoming exhibition, where members will display their latest and best photographs. “We’re also always looking for people and new places to photograph,” she added.

As the exhibition unfolds, visitors are encouraged to explore the creativity and stories behind each photograph, connecting with the local artists who have poured their passion into their work. This is not just a showcase; it’s a celebration of community, creativity, and the art of photography that spans over six decades.

Mark your calendars for this unique event, running through the end of the month, and support local talent by visiting the exhibition at Rockdale Plaza. This is a prime opportunity to witness the evolution of photography and engage with passionate creators right in your community. Don’t miss out on the chance to be inspired!
