Long-Time Educator Kerri-Anne Hubble Retires After 43 Years

BREAKING: Kerri-Anne Hubble, a dedicated educator with over 43 years in the classroom, has officially announced her retirement from Dungowan, marking the end of an era in local education. This significant transition comes as Hubble reflects on her journey, which began in 1982 at Moree East and culminated at Dungowan in 2025.

Hubble’s career has been nothing short of transformative, impacting countless students and families. “I’ve forged wonderful relationships with students and their families, the community, and with staff,” Hubble shared. As she prepares to step down, she emphasizes the need for “fresh blood” in the educational system.

Having started her teaching career on short notice, Hubble recalls the whirlwind of moving from Newcastle to Moree, a 500-kilometre journey that marked her first significant cultural experience. Despite the challenges, including the sudden loss of her father during her early years as an educator, Hubble thrived in her role, embracing the community and its unique culture.

Under her leadership, Dungowan has flourished, especially since her appointment as principal in 2019. Hubble describes these years as the “most rewarding” of her career, filled with joy and fulfillment from engaging with students daily. “Seeing their smiling faces is one of the best parts of the job,” she noted.

As education evolves, Hubble has witnessed significant changes over the decades. She highlighted the shift towards inquiry-based learning and the increased emphasis on STEM education, which empowers students to take charge of their learning experiences. “Now students have more of a voice,” she remarked.

Looking ahead, Hubble and her husband are embarking on a new adventure, building a container home and planning to travel. Destinations on their bucket list include Uluru and the picturesque vineyards of Tuscany. “To sit in a vineyard in Tuscany would be nice,” she expressed with enthusiasm, recalling her previous travels across Europe.

Though she is retiring from her full-time role, Hubble remains open to casual teaching opportunities, ensuring her connection to the educational community continues. “I don’t want to haunt the place,” she joked, indicating her desire to contribute without being a constant presence.

As the Dungowan community prepares for this change, Hubble leaves behind a legacy of dedication, compassion, and innovation in education. Her impact will be felt for years to come as she transitions into a new phase of her life, filled with possibilities and adventures.

Stay tuned for more updates on Hubble’s future endeavors and the new leadership at Dungowan.
