Magda Szubanski Inducted into Logies Hall of Fame This Sunday

URGENT UPDATE: Comedy icon Magda Szubanski will be inducted into the prestigious Logies Hall of Fame this Sunday, marking a significant milestone in her illustrious career. This honor recognizes her profound impact on Australian television, as she becomes the fifth woman ever to receive this accolade since the awards began in 1984.

Szubanski, celebrated for her role as the quirky Sharon Strzelecki in the beloved sitcom Kath and Kim, joins the ranks of legendary women including Ruth Cracknell, Noni Hazlehurst, Kerri-Anne Kennerley, and Rebecca Gibney. Her contribution extends beyond sitcoms to major films such as Babe and Happy Feet, showcasing her versatility and talent.

Known for her heartfelt performances, Szubanski first captivated audiences in the mid-1980s after being discovered by ABC talent scouts while performing at a university revue. Her dynamic range includes notable sketch shows like Fast Forward and the critically acclaimed Big Girl’s Blouse, solidifying her status in the entertainment industry.

Off-screen, Szubanski is a passionate advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights. In 2018, she was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for her significant role in the marriage equality campaign, further emphasizing her commitment to social issues.

However, Szubanski’s journey has not been without challenges. In May 2025, she revealed her battle with stage-four mantle cell lymphoma, a rare and aggressive blood cancer. In a heartfelt message, she expressed her struggles but also her hope, stating, “I won’t sugar-coat it, it’s rough. But I’m hopeful.” She shared her gratitude for the support from friends, family, and her medical team during this difficult time.

The 65th Logie Awards, where Szubanski will be honored, promise to be a night of celebration, particularly for women in television. Almost all nominees for the coveted Gold Logie are women, highlighting a powerful presence in the industry. The evening will be hosted by comedian Sam Pang, ensuring a night filled with entertainment and recognition.

As the event approaches, fans and fellow artists eagerly await this momentous occasion, ready to celebrate Szubanski’s legacy and resilience. Stay tuned for live updates and full coverage of the Logies this Sunday!
