Major Police Crackdown Seizes 135 Guns from Sovereign Citizens

URGENT UPDATE: In a significant law enforcement operation, the Western Australia Police Force has confiscated 135 firearms and 44 gun licences from individuals aligned with the controversial ‘sovereign citizen’ movement. This crackdown occurred between September 29 and October 3, highlighting the police’s commitment to addressing anti-government extremism.

Police Commissioner Col Blanch emphasized the urgency of this operation, stating, “Our mission was to validate and verify intelligence regarding those who may hold sovereign citizen ideologies in Western Australia.” He further asserted that individuals openly rejecting the state’s laws cannot be trusted to possess firearms, reinforcing the connection between gun ownership and adherence to legal standards.

The operation, dubbed Operation Ascendant, is part of a broader national effort to combat the rising influence of sovereign citizen ideologies. These beliefs advocate for the rejection of government authority, laws, and regulations, posing a significant threat to public safety. In a stark reminder of the dangers, Commissioner Blanch noted, “In the last three years, six police officers have been murdered by firearms while responding to properties.”

The situation is further complicated by the ongoing search for suspected sovereign citizen Dezi Freeman in Porepunkah bushland, Victoria. Freeman is wanted for allegedly killing two police officers and has evaded capture for six weeks, underscoring the urgency of addressing this extremist ideology.

Authorities are taking these threats seriously, with Commissioner Blanch stating, “We do take it very seriously when we conduct operations like this for the safety of police officers and the safety of our community.” The implications of this crackdown extend beyond just law enforcement; it raises critical questions about public safety and gun ownership regulations in Australia.

As police continue to conduct audits in both metropolitan and regional Western Australia, communities are urged to stay vigilant. The results of Operation Ascendant will likely shape future policies regarding firearms and extremist ideologies, making this a developing story to watch closely.

Stay tuned for more updates as authorities address this urgent issue and ensure the safety of all citizens.
