UPDATE: A 59-year-old man has been charged in Sydney after allegedly importing a “childlike sex doll” from Asia and possessing disturbing AI-generated child abuse material. This urgent case comes to light following police investigations that began with a parcel seizure in August.
On September 8, 2023, authorities executed a search warrant at a property in Lalor Park, where they confiscated multiple electronic devices and children’s clothing. The investigation was initiated by the Australian Border Force (ABF), which identified the suspect package at an international mail facility. Upon inspection, the parcel revealed the controversial doll, prompting further action by the ABF Investigations NSW and the Australian Federal Police (AFP).
Officials allege that the investigation uncovered a significant collection of AI-generated child abuse material, along with documentation supporting the importation of the doll. The man is facing serious charges, including one count of importing tier 2 goods contrary to the Customs Act, and one count each of possessing child abuse material using a carriage service.
If convicted, he could face a maximum sentence of up to 15 years in prison. He has been refused bail and is scheduled to appear before the Blacktown Local Court on Monday.
AFP Detective Superintendent Luke Needham emphasized the commitment of law enforcement to combat child exploitation, stating,
“The message could not be clearer – if you engage in these horrific activities, you will be found, charged, and prosecuted.”
ABF Superintendent Shaun Baker echoed this sentiment, highlighting the importance of intelligence-led operations in intercepting illicit goods. He remarked,
“These vile dolls and this digital material have no place in Australian society. Our officers are always on the lookout for these videos and images coming through our airports.”
The case highlights the urgent need to address the normalization of exploitation through such items, reinforcing that this is far from a victimless crime. As investigations continue, authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to child exploitation.
