BREAKING: A 49-year-old man from Altona Meadows has been charged with over 30 offenses linked to a shocking Christmas crime spree across Melbourne. Authorities allege this individual initiated a series of burglaries and vehicle thefts beginning on Christmas night, marking an alarming holiday disruption for the community.
Police report that at approximately 7 PM on December 25, the suspect broke into a design studio in Richmond. Shortly after, he reportedly stole a vehicle from a nearby furniture business in the same suburb. The crime wave escalated early on Boxing Day, with burglaries recorded at a restaurant in Deer Park around 5:45 AM, followed by additional break-ins at an indoor furniture store on the Western Highway in Ravenhall and two restaurants on Westwood Drive.
The suspect’s spree came to an end when he was apprehended at a pub in St Albans at 1 PM on Boxing Day. Police found the stolen vehicle in the parking lot and seized items believed to be taken during the burglaries. Charges against him include burglary, theft, and criminal damage. He is set to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.
In a separate incident, authorities in Canberra arrested a 39-year-old man for allegedly carrying a 3D-printed handgun at a shopping mall on Boxing Day. He has been charged with the unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm.
Additionally, the Australian Border Force apprehended a woman at Sydney Airport who reportedly attempted to smuggle over $16 million worth of amphetamines into Australia. The drugs were concealed in vacuum-sealed bags labeled as “tea.”
