Murray Magpies Sign Ethan Reeves as Club’s First Playing Coach

BREAKING: The Murray Magpies have made a significant move in their quest for improvement by signing Ethan Reeves as the club’s first-ever playing coach, replacing Josh Warren. This groundbreaking recruitment has just been confirmed and is sending shockwaves through the Hume league.

Reeves, a 29-year-old footballer with an impressive track record, is set to bring a wealth of experience and talent to the Magpies. He was a vital part of the premiership-winning team with Southport in the NEAFL back in 2018 and has also been recognized as a NEAFL Rising Star nominee in the same year. His previous coaching role includes a successful stint with Finley from 2022-23, where he garnered respect as a strong leader.

Magpies co-president Ted Miller expressed his excitement about bringing Reeves on board. “I’ve been chasing Ethan for a couple of years now, and to say that we are stoked to sign a player of his calibre would be an understatement,” Miller shared. The deal, initially for one year, marks a pivotal moment for the club, which struggled last season, finishing at the bottom of the ladder without a win.

Reeves comes to the Magpies after spending last year with Robinvale-Euston and this season with Koondrook Barham. Miller noted that the club has already seen interest from potential recruits eager to join after the signing of such a high-profile player. “It has already created a huge buzz around the club,” he added.

This coaching decision follows a tumultuous season for the Magpies, who parted ways with Warren late last year. The appointment of Reeves is seen as a strategic move to not only elevate the team’s performance but also to attract new talent. Miller emphasized the transformative potential of this signing, stating, “Ethan would be the highest-profile playing coach the club has had in its entire history.”

Reeves is expected to relocate from the Gold Coast to the Border region early in the new year, where he aims to make a significant impact on both the field and in the locker room. The Magpies are optimistic that his versatile playing style—primarily in the midfield but also capable as a half-back or half-forward—will bolster their roster in the upcoming season.

With fans and players buzzing about this new era for the Magpies, the urgency for improvement is palpable. As the club prepares for the next season, all eyes will be on Reeves to see if he can lead the Magpies out of the last-place position and into a more competitive standing in the Hume league.

Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops and the Magpies gear up for what promises to be an exciting season ahead.
