UPDATE: Barrel Farm, a new food and beverage venue, officially opens its doors in Albany, bringing a long-held family dream to life. Owned by the Buxton family, this venue combines over 50 years of farming history with a modern twist, serving the family’s Yilgarnia Wines alongside a carefully curated menu.
Located on South Coast Hwy, Marbelup, the venue blends rustic charm with contemporary design elements. The Buxton family, led by parents Peter and Peg Buxton, transformed an old dairy farm into a vibrant retreat, drawing on their extensive experience in farming.
Holly Buxton, the venue manager and youngest daughter, shared insights on the intensive three-year building process. “We worked as a family every weekend,” she stated. “From building timber tables to restoring old stone buildings, it was truly a collective effort.” The family’s commitment is evident in every detail, from the 2000 red clinker bricks reclaimed from a century-old house to the handcrafted pendant lights made by Holly’s brother-in-law, Mike.
In a remarkable feat, they also relocated 50 ancient olive trees, achieving a 100% survival rate. The effort to restore the land included clearing unsightly weeds and revitalizing the dam, fostering a return of local birdlife. “We wanted patrons to enjoy the views and appreciate the natural beauty,” Holly emphasized.
The venue’s name reflects the Buxton family’s love for wine, beer, and the ocean, symbolizing three cherished barrels. The family’s passion resonates throughout the venue, which is now welcoming guests. Holly reported overwhelmingly positive feedback, stating, “Seeing tables filled with families across generations is incredibly gratifying.”
Barrel Farm is now open for business, inviting the community to experience its unique blend of history and innovation. For more information, visit www.barrelfarm.com.au.
