New Novel “Lessons in Love” Launches Today, Set in 1980s Terrigal

UPDATE: The highly anticipated novel, Lessons in Love at the Seaside Salon, by acclaimed author Green, has just been released today, July 30, 2023. Set against the vibrant backdrop of a Terrigal hair salon in the 1980s, this book offers a heartfelt exploration of love and community through the lives of four women.

This latest release from Hachette Publishers follows the success of Green’s previous works, including the bestsellers The Bellbird River Country Choir and Weekends with the Sunshine Gardening Society. With a proven track record, Green’s debut novel, The Inaugural Meeting of The Fairvale Ladies Book Club, was not only a Top Ten bestseller but also garnered prestigious nominations including the Australian Book Industry Awards for General Fiction Book of the Year in 2018.

Green shares, “I always set out to write meaningful entertainment.” She emphasizes that the novel is not only a collection of love stories but also a tribute to the essence of community and connection, which are more vital now than ever. Drawing from her personal experiences, Green notes, “My grandparents moved to the Central Coast in the 1980s, and I spent a lot of time there, especially in Terrigal.”

The inspiration for this novel came while Green was immersed in the music of the 80s and watching character comedies featuring salons. “It was the big hair and big shoulder pads that drew me in,” she explains. The salon setting allows for rich narratives as “salons are hubs of connection and community,” according to Green.

With her signature style, Green’s characters are realistic and relatable, bringing humor and emotion to the forefront. She highlights, “Readers like being able to see themselves in the story… this all means that readers want to have an experience when they read a book.”

Green’s writing process involves meticulous planning, including character profiles that help her understand their journeys. “While there are many cultures that emphasize individual achievement, we are nothing without our social connections,” she asserts, underscoring the importance of friendship and community.

In conjunction with the launch, Green will host a discussion at Erina Library at 10:30 AM on August 21, 2023. Interested readers can secure their spots by booking at www.trybooking.com/DDAMR.

As Green’s latest offering hits the shelves, readers are encouraged to dive into this poignant narrative that celebrates love, friendship, and the spirit of community. Don’t miss the chance to experience the emotional depth and engaging storytelling that has captured the hearts of many.
