URGENT UPDATE: New wayfinding signs have just been launched across Torquay, aiming to enhance walkability and the visitor experience while supporting local businesses. The $370,000 initiative, funded by the Victorian Government and Surf Coast Shire, is expected to significantly improve navigation for residents and tourists alike.
These new signs provide vital information about local attractions, facilities, and natural features, forming clearer connections between the town’s key areas, beaches, and cultural sites. The project was officially marked by Gayle Tierney, Member for Western Victoria, and Libby Stapleton, the mayor of Surf Coast Shire, who gathered in Torquay last week to celebrate its completion.
“This initiative highlights Torquay’s unique offerings beyond surf culture, aiming to attract both communities and visitors,” stated Ms. Tierney. She emphasized that the upgrades exemplify the impact of the Growing Suburbs Fund in making Victoria’s unique locales more enjoyable and accessible.
The funding breakdown includes $175,000 from the Growing Suburbs Fund and an additional $20,000 from the Regional Infrastructure Fund. Since 2020, the shire has received over $4 million in support from this fund, contributing to three projects valued at over $10 million.
Since its inception in 2015, the Growing Suburbs Fund has supported 370 projects across the state, driving an investment total of $1.3 billion and generating approximately 11,300 jobs. This new signage project is poised to not only enhance the local experience but also invigorate economic activity in the region.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to explore the upgraded features, which are designed to make navigating Torquay easier and more enjoyable. This initiative is further evidence of the ongoing commitment to improving the quality of life and tourism potential in this beautiful coastal town.
Stay tuned for more updates as the community embraces these improvements and their impact on local tourism.
