Northcote Cottage Transforms into Art Deco Gem, Sells for $2.35M

BREAKING: A stunning transformation has taken place in Northcote, where a beautifully renovated 1930s cottage has just sold for $2.35 million. This sale, confirmed by local real estate agent Toni Leskovec of Jellis Craig Northcote, highlights the intense demand for unique properties in the area.

The three-bedroom, two-bathroom home located at 15 Mitchell Street fetched just over its reserve of $2.3 million at auction, despite only attracting one active bidder—a young family. With a price guide set between $2.1 million and $2.3 million, this auction drew significant interest throughout the campaign, yet ultimately culminated in a single paddle raise that initiated bidding at $2.1 million.

The property, which was revitalized in 2021, originally sold for just $905,000 as a smaller two-bedroom, one-bathroom cottage. The extensive renovations have transformed it into an art deco masterpiece, preserving its unique charm while modernizing its features. Leskovec emphasized the quality of the renovation, calling it “a beautifully designed house in a tightly held street,” making it a hot commodity for potential buyers.

The auction was described as slow initially, but Leskovec noted, “I priced it really well and I think it was great value for the owner and buyer.” She pointed out that comparable homes in the area had recently sold for lower prices, indicating that this sale reflects a strong market despite fewer bidders.

Despite the low competition at the auction, interest remained high among young couples, families, and downsizers, all drawn to the home’s unique design and location. Its proximity to Northcote’s bustling café strip further enhances its appeal, making it a desirable living space for families seeking both charm and convenience.

The successful sale of this cottage not only illustrates the ongoing demand for well-renovated homes but also highlights the competitive nature of the Northcote real estate market. As property values continue to rise, potential buyers are urged to act swiftly in this dynamic environment.

Stay tuned for more updates on the Northcote real estate market and similar developments that may shape the landscape in the coming weeks.
