Officer Charged with Negligent Driving After Pedestrian Crash

BREAKING: A police sergeant has been charged with negligent driving causing grievous bodily harm following a serious crash on the Mid North Coast earlier this month. The incident, which occurred shortly before 2:20 AM on January 5, 2024, involved the officer’s police vehicle striking a 39-year-old female pedestrian on Middleton Street in South Kempsey.

The injured woman was promptly transported to Kempsey Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries to her leg and spine. She was subsequently moved to John Hunter Hospital for further medical care, highlighting the severity of her injuries.

Authorities have confirmed that a crime scene was established immediately after the incident. The Manning-Great Lakes Police District initiated a critical incident investigation, examining the circumstances surrounding the crash with the assistance of the Crash Investigation Unit.

Following thorough inquiries, the officer received a court attendance notice for negligent driving on December 31, 2025. He is slated to appear in Taree Local Court on February 10, 2026.
