UPDATE: Police have apprehended a suspect dubbed the “green belt burglar,” who allegedly targeted 42 properties since 2018. The arrest took place in Wodonga at approximately 6:40 AM on September 3, following a comprehensive investigation that has spanned several years.
The suspect, Jarred Richard Kennedy, aged 30, faces an astonishing 100-plus charges, including 15 counts of aggravated burglary and 27 counts of burglary. Officers executed a search of Kennedy’s residence around 8 AM, recovering items believed to be linked to the series of burglaries.
Authorities reported that out of the total incidents, 15 occurred while residents were present, raising significant concerns about safety in the community. Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Mick Drew acknowledged the distress caused to victims, stating, “We know just how distressing it is for members of the community to have their homes broken into and possessions taken.”
Kennedy appeared in Wodonga court shortly after his arrest and has been remanded in custody. He is scheduled to return to court on December 18.
