Former Melbourne Vixen star Rahni Samason will join the Lakers next season, marking one of the largest signings in league history. In addition to Samason, the Lakers have also secured the signing of Charlize Bellette, who made her debut last season with the Melbourne Mavericks. Bellette, now part of the under-19 Victorian squad, is expected to benefit greatly from playing alongside Samason in the goal circle. “To play with someone in the circle with Rahni’s experience will help her game,” Oborne added.
Last season, the Lakers boasted five teams, with all but one making the finals. Their division 1 team claimed the minor premiership but narrowly missed out on the grand final. Oborne is focused on continuing to develop talent from the junior ranks, with hopes that this will lead to future premiership success. “We have got so much talent coming through we will only get stronger,” she stated.
