Sengkang Green Primary School Launches Urgent Young Philatelists Club

UPDATE: Sengkang Green Primary School has just announced the launch of its Young Philatelists Club, an innovative Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) for Primary Three students, beginning this March 2026. This program, spearheaded by SingPost, aims to ignite passion for philately and instill a deeper understanding of Singapore’s rich heritage through stamps.

The inaugural intake will consist of 30 Primary Three students, marking a significant step in integrating educational activities that foster curiosity and critical thinking. As stated by Mr. Gau Poh Teck, Principal of Sengkang Green Primary School, “The Young Philatelists Club is not just about collecting stamps; it is about the study of stamps. Stamps tell stories, transforming stamp collecting into a pathway for self-directed learning and exploration of our unique culture.”

This exciting initiative not only supports students’ academic development but also enhances their understanding of national identity, history, and geography. The club is designed to nurture essential learning dispositions, encouraging students to explore different cultures and develop the resilience needed to build meaningful collections.

Ms. Neo Su Yin, Chief Operating Officer of SingPost, expressed her enthusiasm for this milestone, stating, “We are delighted that Sengkang Green Primary School has taken the Young Philatelists School Programme a step further by embedding it as a CCA.” She emphasized the importance of stamps in sparking conversations about identity and connection, highlighting the program’s role in cultivating the next generation of stamp enthusiasts.

The Young Philatelists School Programme is part of SingPost’s broader commitment to preserving Singapore’s philatelic heritage. This initiative also includes the development of a digital repository of Singapore’s national stamps, set to make these resources more accessible to schools and the public.

Schools interested in establishing their own philately clubs can contact SingPost for a “starter pack” of stamps, which aims to inspire students to delve into the captivating stories each stamp holds.
