South Bank Launches Jungle-Themed Outdoor Cinema for Summer Fun

The South Bank precinct in Brisbane has unveiled a new outdoor cinema experience, offering a vibrant jungle-themed atmosphere for movie enthusiasts. The initiative, introduced by the Brisbane City Council, aims to enhance the local cultural scene by showcasing beloved film classics under a subtropical canopy. The outdoor cinema will run throughout the summer, featuring a diverse lineup of films that promise to entertain audiences of all ages.

The opening night is set for December 1, 2024, kicking off a series of screenings that will last until February 29, 2025. Patrons can expect to enjoy films such as “The Jungle Book,” “Madagascar,” and “Jumanji,” all selected to complement the thematic decor. Each screening will begin at 18:30, providing an ideal setting as the sun sets over the scenic South Bank Parklands.

In addition to the film screenings, the summer program will include live music performances and art installations, creating a festive atmosphere. Local artists and musicians will be featured, further enriching the cultural experience. Visitors can enjoy food stalls offering a variety of culinary delights, ensuring a well-rounded evening of entertainment.

The outdoor cinema is part of South Bank’s broader initiative to promote community engagement and revitalise the area as a cultural hub. According to the Brisbane City Council, this initiative aims to attract both locals and tourists, enhancing the overall vibrancy of the precinct. With its unique blend of film, music, and art, the outdoor cinema is expected to draw significant crowds throughout the summer months.

Moreover, the new cinema is designed to accommodate social distancing measures, ensuring the safety of all attendees. Seating arrangements will be spaced out, allowing for a comfortable viewing experience while adhering to health guidelines. The council encourages visitors to bring their own blankets and cushions for added comfort during the screenings.

For those interested in attending, tickets can be purchased online or at the venue. Prices are set at AUD 15 for adults, with discounted rates for children and seniors. The council anticipates that this initiative will not only provide entertainment but also stimulate local businesses in the area.

The South Bank outdoor cinema represents a significant addition to Brisbane’s cultural offerings, promising a summer filled with memorable experiences. With its engaging lineup of films and lively atmosphere, it invites residents and visitors alike to immerse themselves in the magic of cinema under the stars.
