South Bendigo Welcomes Nathan Horbury’s Return: Urgent Update

UPDATE: Nathan Horbury is set to return to South Bendigo Football Club for the upcoming season, while continuing his life in Queensland. Horbury’s move is considered a major boost for the Bloods as they aim to build on their recent success in the Bendigo Football Netball League (BFNL).

After two years enjoying the Queensland lifestyle, Horbury, known for his elite playing skills, is excited to contribute to South Bendigo’s momentum. “I still get to play a bit of footy at South, which is really exciting with the direction the club is heading,” Horbury stated. He plans to play approximately eight games next season, balancing his life in Noosaville with his commitment to the Bloods.

Horbury previously made a significant impact as a player and coach at South Bendigo from 2019 to 2023. He was instrumental in their success, becoming a respected figure in the league. His return is not just about the games; it’s about fostering strong relationships and leadership. “It’s huge for the club to get Horbs back; not only is he a very good player, but he’s an outstanding person,” said Bloods co-coach Troy Coates.

The Bloods are coming off a strong season, winning 12 games and reaching the second week of the finals in 2024. With Horbury back in the fold, the team is poised for even greater achievements. Horbury’s presence is expected to elevate the performance of younger players, providing guidance and mentorship.

Horbury’s enthusiasm for the club and its direction is palpable. “When I see the boys who are still running around that I’ve spent so much time with… I’d love to have some success with them,” he shared. His return symbolizes hope and ambition for both the team and its supporters.

As the Bloods prepare for pre-season training starting on December 1, players and fans alike are eager to see Horbury back on the field. While he reunites with familiar faces, he will miss playing alongside Steven Stroobants, who is joining reigning champions Calder United after a successful season.

Horbury’s journey back to South Bendigo marks a significant chapter in his football career. His ability to juggle commitments in Queensland while contributing to his former club exemplifies the modern athlete’s flexibility and dedication.

As the club gears up for the next season, all eyes will be on Horbury, and the excitement is building. Stay tuned for more updates as South Bendigo prepares to make waves in the upcoming BFNL season.
