Storm Deters Crowd but Enthusiasm Soars at Greenmount Challenge

UPDATE: The Greenmount Billycart Challenge on December 4, 2025, faced a smaller crowd due to an early morning storm, yet competitor enthusiasm soared, marking a thrilling day for racers and fans alike. While rain dampened the attendance, it did not extinguish the spirit of the event, as local favorite Scott Priebbenow returned in his Bundaberg racing unit to the delight of devoted fans.

Just before the race began, a storm swept through the area, affecting spectator turnout. Although Greenmount experienced milder weather compared to other regions on the Darling Downs, many potential attendees opted to stay home. Despite this, competitors traveled from afar to participate, showcasing their innovative billycarts in a thrilling contest.

This year marked the third annual Greenmount Billycart Challenge, and drivers were well-prepared for the racecourse. While familiar carts graced the track, several new models emerged, demonstrating impressive speed and design. Brendan Quirey, vice president of Get Chopped Community Events Inc., expressed optimism about the event, stating, “Another great day out in Greenmount was had by spectators and competitors alike.”

Quirey praised the hard work of volunteers who meticulously prepared the track to ensure safety and excitement for all involved. He confirmed the commitment to continue this beloved tradition, saying, “There sure will be” a 2026 event.

The Greenmount Billycart Challenge exemplifies community spirit, drawing together local competitors and spectators in a celebration of creativity and sportsmanship. As the event wrapped up, the atmosphere remained electric, with participants eager to return next year.

In this year’s competitions, junior racers showcased their skills, launching off the starting ramp with determination toward the finish line. The event not only highlights local talent but also fosters a sense of camaraderie among participants and fans.

With the promise of a 2026 event, the Greenmount Billycart Challenge continues to capture the hearts of the community, proving that even in the face of challenges, the spirit of competition and innovation thrives. Share your experiences and excitement for next year’s race!
