Stunning 5-Metre Pine Tree Installed at Government House for Christmas

UPDATE: A magnificent 5-metre radiata pine has just been installed at Government House in New South Wales, marking the continuation of a cherished Christmas tradition. This stunning tree, sourced from Penrose State Forest, is set to delight guests during the Christmas reception hosted by Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC.

The Forestry Corporation of NSW announced the installation on December 18, 2025, emphasizing the importance of real Christmas trees from state forests that have graced the foyer of Government House for decades. This year’s tree was meticulously selected for its perfect shape, showcasing the dedication of the Forestry Corporation’s staff.

In addition to the main tree, a 3.5-metre pine has also been supplied for Vaucluse House, enhancing the festive spirit across NSW. According to Tom Bagnell, Moss Vale Area Supervisor at the Forestry Corporation, “Our team takes great pride in finding the perfect Christmas trees for Government House and Vaucluse House.”

These trees do more than just bring holiday cheer; they symbolize the vital role of pine plantations in the NSW timber industry, which supplies enough timber each year to build 40,000 new homes. This figure represents the total number of homes in cities like Orange, Bathurst, and Oberon combined.

“Radiata pine from our plantations is essential for construction, landscaping, and everyday pulp and paper products that communities rely on,” Mr. Bagnell added. The Forestry Corporation is committed to sustainability, ensuring that every harvested tree is replaced. Over the past five years, more than 60 million seedlings have been raised and hand-planted across NSW State forests to secure timber supplies for future generations.

As the festive season unfolds, the majestic pine at Government House stands not only as a holiday centerpiece but also as a testament to the enduring relationship between the community and the environment. This year’s celebration is a reminder of the joy these trees bring while highlighting the critical role of forestry in Australia’s economy.
